looking ahead…..

I’ve been looking ahead to fall/winter for several weeks now. Not sure why but my turning inward started early this season. The farmers almanac is calling for a cold and snowy winter for us, yay! This reinforces my need to settle in early for a long winter. I want to try and keep some of my garden growing as far into winter as I can. I know I said I wanted to put it to bed, and I did take out the tomatoes(they were not doing well) but….now I want to try and succeed at a winter garden. Winter gardens are not nearly as time consuming as summer ones so I have hope. My main reasons for putting forth the effort are to lower my food bill and keep as much local eating going as long as I can. I’m feeling a strong need to save more $$$$ and that just isn’t happening the way I want it to right now.
We’ve had a cool few days and even a couple of rain showers which kept me indoors and the creative bug hit. I’ve sewn curtains for the dining room and my bedroom and a warm blanket for the living room on cold chilly nights in front of the fire.
more to come on the garden plans….

  1. Have you read “Four Season Harvest” by Eliot Coleman? It’s a fantastic resource and I think would come in handy.
