things that go bump

The bumps I mentioned in my previous post turned out to be swollen taste buds on my tongue. Who knew they swelled?!   The dr. didn’t know why I had a reaction to a homeopathic pill but told me to take Bendadryl to counteract it. It knocked me out and made me very foggy. My tastebuds are still swollen but my throat isn’t so tight. I finally asked her for some real anxiety meds and left with a prescription for Lexapro. I’ve had it for 4 days and I don’t like it at all. It makes me fuzzy and unclear in thinking…..of couse my anxiety is gone, I’m too much in a fog to know!  lol   So, I guess I’ll go back to the natural route and maybe consider accupuncture and therapy.

My friends garage sale was a complete bust and we’ve both vowed to never do one again!  It was good to get rid of some unnecessary things but it wasn’t through the sale….we gave it to the Salvation Army which is what we should  have done to begine with. Live and learn, over and over sometimes emoticon

breathe

this is worth the time spent pouring over the seed catalogs, ammending my soild, planting the seeds and nurturing them to fruition.

My anxiety is high right now, not sure why. I was trying a natural pill of herbs and minerals and think I have an allergic reaction to them. My throat feels tight and I have bumps on my tongue….that feeling of imminent death creeps right in when your throat feels tight!  I"m almost to the point of taking the prescription for anxiety meds and be done with it but I keep hoping I can fix it naturally.emoticon

wisdom teeth

My daughter had her 4 wisdome teeth extracted today. ouch! She was sedate through an iv and it went very well. Dr. said she had extremely low bleeding which he was happy to see. I’ve got her tucked in bed with her vicadin and cold compress to alleviate the swelling. I fed her a chocolate milkshake(only cold smooth foods that require no chewing and easy swallowing as her throat was numb) to coat her stomach for the vicadin and it reminded me of when she was small. She is nearly 18 and a lovely young woman….it is such a pleasure to care for her. Her heart is kind but strong and she is such a champion for others, I just adore her.
She has made it easy to live my motto which is “celebrate children”!

eating local challenge

my eating local dinner was very simple but delicious. With the temperatures in the 100s+ for a week now, a simple dinner was crucial. I picked up these lamb sausage links at the organic meat counter, found the tomatoes at a local farm and the cucumbers are from my garden.

Last night I was changing the format of this blog and suddenly all of the posts disappeared. Poof, gone! They came back on then off, doing this all day today. Now I have my sidebar all messed up and not sure how to bring it back up where it belongs.
What a mess.
Today was another scorcher like yesterday…102 and humid! I don’t think anyone fell asleep last night until the wee hours of the morning and I don’t see it any better tonight. We haven’t seen heat like this in sometime. My tomatoes love it so it will be worth it in a few weeks when I see those red beauties waiting to be picked.
My friend L is having a garage sale Fri/Sat and I said I would contribute so my goal for the week is to get this place cleaned out of unnecessary/unwanted “stuff”.
I had a great “local” dinner tonight and will post it tomorrow. The market today was brimming with local eats……love love love this time of year just for this reason!

home

I am such a homebody and the older I get the more apparent it is. Seems I’m always ready to come home the moment I arrive at our destination. My nerves were already frayed from the drive in and as I was watching CNN to keep up on Lebanon, they reported the tsunami in Indonesia! Not what you want to hear while being at the shore. That evening the local mayor was being interviewed and he was asked if he and the reporter could escape with the 30 minute tsunami warning the town has in place. His answer was no. There would be gridlock and no one could escape. sigh

have laundry to clean and bags to unpack so I’ll end this for now…….. Here are a few photos of the great Pacific Ocean.

Well, I couldn’t get the pictures to upload, too big and I forgot how to resize so for now, no pics. Maybe later

I spoke too soon, here are the pictures. Last night I spent hours trying to remember how I did it and today I go in and click, there it is. Go figure!

vacation

I’ll be gone from the blogging through next Thursday. We’re heading to the coast in WA for a week with 2 of the 3 kids. It’s strange when they grow up and aren’t always with you anymore…..some readjusting is in order.
I’m not a good traveler and we have to cross a very long bridge and I was fretting over it when my friend told me about taking Valerian. Now, I don’t know why I didn’t think of that because I used to take it about 15 years ago to help calm my nerves. My nerves are much worse now and its definitely time to heal my body but this week isn’t it, so Valerian it is.
I hope to take some pictures of the coast to post here when I return and give you a peek into my world. We’re about 1 1/2hrs from the coast so not too long of a drive.
There is packing to do, baking, good watering of the garden and laundry before the trip so I’m off!

basil pesto

this is the recipe I use for making pesto. I had to harvest both of my basil plants before they went to seed and need to get this pesto made. Hopefully I will be rewarded with a new crop in a few weeks, providing that the rain goes away and lets sunshine in!

Basil Pesto

If you plan to freeze this pesto, briefly cook the basil in salted water before mixing with other ingredients as this will help preserve its bright color and fresh taste. Traditionally this is made with cheese but it freezes better without. Go ahead and add a little of your favorite cheese after the pesto has thawed. I used Asiago or Parmesan Reggiano.

1cup pine nuts or walnuts

coarse salt/ground pepper

8cups packed fresh basil leaves

2cloves garlic coarsely chopped

2/3 cup extra virgin olive oil

boil 4 cups of salted water. Submerge basil and immediately drain in a cooler. Rinse with cold water until cool and then pat dry. In a food processor combine nuts, basil and garlic. Season generously with salt and pepper and process until nuts are finely chopped. With the machine running, pour oil in and process until smooth. Use immediately or freeze.

eating local challenge

here is my weekly "eating local challenge" meal. Breakfast of fresh, local eggs and cheddar cheese from a nearby cheesemaker and lamb sausage with crimini mushrooms……sprinkled with cracked pepper. It was yummy!

I’m trying to stay on a food combining plan and this breakfast was tops on the list!  Basically I’ve eliminated the junk which in my case is ice cream, as I consider it a food group! No sugar, white flour, potatoes, pasta, etc. Lots of good protein, vegetables and fruit. I don’t buy/cook with any(that I know of!) processed foods really but its still easy to eat junk. I turn 40 in December and would really like to have lightened my load a bit by then.

hope

I can’t seem to figure out the coding for this damn site but I can upload photos! When I’m feeling anxious or frustrated with the condition of this world and our leaders, I always find encouragement and hope when I’m in the garden.
